3D was a huge hit in the late 1950s and early 60's, anyone over the age of 50 years old should remember the excitement of wearing the cardboard glasses with one green and one red plastic lens which were necessary to watch a 3D movie, even then you could only watch in the cinima as the tv's were black and white and very poor quality pictures.

How things have changed, 3D technology has improved massively and over the last 18 months a number of major cinema releases were filmed and in 3D changing the face of the blockbuster movie for ever. Avatar kicked the whole thing of followed by a ton of movies, some great some not so great. I live in the UK and now can watch many of my favorite TV channels in HD 3D, with offerings from the BBC and Sky TV.

3D is now huge in sports programming such as premiership football, In fact the UK is leading the world in the amount of 3D programs being transmitted which as it becomes the norm gets cheaper.

The burning question you have to ask is will 3D ever be for the masses to watch in their own home or will it stay a medium watched by a small percentage of privaliged folks who can afford the equipment that allows them to recieve the broadcast.

Up until a few months ago it loked as if it would never be affordable enough for the average Joe to afford it, however things are changing at an unbelievably quick rate. First of all, for it to be affordable the networks had to embrace the 3D format and invest in equipment to transmit the programs. At this point a lot of the cable networks have started to move towards 3D and it is likely this programming will be included in some HDTV packages, although viewers may have to pay an extra subscription charge to recieve it, but as things progress it can only become cheaper.

Looking at the harware side of the equation, 3D TV's are getting cheaper by the day, and can be found every where. I suggest that before the end of 2011 that people upgrading there TV will most certainly consider moving over to the 3D format. There are lot of HD 3D TV's hitting te market right now and the major companies such as Samsung, Sony, LG and Panasonic have already started competing heavily in the 3D market.

One outstanding package I have seen is the Vizio E3D420VX 42inch 3D TV, it has everything bundled with it such as wireless internet TV, 2 pairs of quality 3D glasses, incredible 1080p video with deep blacks and stunning color and is as cheap as it used to be to buy a normal 42 inch plasma a few months ago.

Things have certainly moved at a quick pace over the last year, where as you would have invested in a blue-ray video player, there is an easier way to watch high definition movies via the internet straight to your 3D TV.

So in conclusion I would stick my neck out and say the 3D TV is definately here to stay, and as time moves on will only get cheaper and better value for all.
